I end up starting fires and cutting down my pear tree with my saw-zal.

Seriously! Who drinks and cuts down a tree by themselves in the dark? You can't have a fire in your yard! It has to be more contained than that! Chad, you no longer live in the boonies!
That tree was evil and I think lent too much cover for the guy what poops in your driveway for you to dig in. I am OK with cutting down the tree as long as the poop is gone. But I do think the city has rule against burning yard waste. If the cop shows up you could just say it was to keep the drug dealers away and then go back inside in quite a huff.
